Initiating Mental and Character Education For Nations
Recently,
We heard a very shocking news. The Chairman of Constitutional court, Akil
Mochtar, has been caught for corruption case, that related on the election of
regional head in some districts. This case absolutely disgrace a juritical face
if Indonesia. Nevertheless, a constitunial court that has a duty to establish a
law in this country, even it’s chairman is chased with corruption case. How
can, someone with high position and salary like him, tempted with money and
wealth. And once more, public shocked and asked “whether there are leaders who
are honest and clean in this country”?
Actually,
of we see this case for any further, we’ll find, there is a reason that cause
Akil Mochtar to do this case. It’s caused mental and character crisis that he
experienced. Not only on him, in fact, a
mental and character crisis has been experienced with most of indonesia public.
And with same reason, a teacher in one school give an examination asnwer key to
his student for the sake of money. In Other case, a pupil do a sexual violence
to a pupil under age. And more worse, a mother sell her baby only for sake of
money. All of this case is unseparated with mental and character crisis that
experienced with Indonesian public.
In
this circumstances, mental and character education become a necessity for all
class of public. The curriculum at the school who had only focused how a
student being smart and compete in a single subject, should be changed, so
beside the student become well in science, as well in mental and noble
character. Soul of honestly, sincerity, sacrifice, and other noble character
must be teached beginning from early age. Islamic boarding
school Gontor can become a good example, how an educational institution not
only teach a science but also educate a mental and character of students.
Even
so, in the various agencies and government facilities, a mental and character
education must be implanted to all employments and government staff. This is to
support a clean and trustworthy government
system, based on strong mental and character.
Finally,
in the middle of mental, moral and character crisis that experienced most of Indonesian public now, there’s still a
hope to solve these problems. A Mental and character education become a
solution to rebuild character of all Indonesia public, to become honest, clean,
and trustworthy. And with character and mental education too, that lead to the
triumph of this nation
